Free Catalytic Converter Tagging Event, May 15

May 1, 2024

Residents are invited to take part in a proactive initiative aimed at curbing theft by attending a free catalytic converter tagging event. Hosted by the Timnath Police Department in collaboration with Les Schwab and the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA), this event will be held on May 15, 2024. Residents must reserve their spots in advance. Early registration is crucial as spots are limited, and previous events have filled up quickly. During the event, vehicle owners can have their catalytic converters marked with unique identification tags supplied by the Colorado State Patrol’s CATPA. These tags are designed to make it easier to trace a catalytic converter back to its original vehicle if stolen, providing a significant deterrent to thieves. The tagging process involves applying a label that includes a unique number, which is registered with the tag company and linked to national databases such as CCIC/NCIC. This allows for quick identification and action by law enforcement if the tagged part is ever recovered after being stolen.
