Timnath Town Council Moves Forward with Community Task Force Following Timnath Elementary Extension
November 3, 2026
Following Poudre School District’s decision to keep Timnath Elementary School open for an additional year, the Timnath Town Council is moving forward with an independent community task force to explore a range of collaborative and financially viable options that could allow elementary students to continue being educated in Timnath.
The effort builds on the significant work of parents, residents and community members who have advocated for Timnath Elementary and demonstrated the community’s strong interest in preserving local educational options. The additional year provides an opportunity to build on that momentum and explore what may be possible.
“Our community asked for more time, and now we have an opportunity to make that time meaningful,” Mayor Robert Axmacher said. “There are still a lot of questions to work through, but we want to bring people together, look seriously at the options and see what we can accomplish with the school district as a partner.”
Council has committed $50,000 to support the effort, including $25,000 from the current budget and an additional $25,000 planned for fiscal year 2027. Envisioned as a collaboration among PSD, the Town, parents and the broader community, the task force would operate independently to evaluate potential solutions and bring forward its own recommendations. Council looks forward to working with PSD as a copartner in the process and drawing on the district’s information and expertise as options are evaluated. Community members will also have opportunities to participate and help shape the work.
The task force would not begin with a predetermined solution. Its work would consider a range of possibilities for helping elementary students continue to be educated in Timnath, including partnerships, fundraising, potential new funding sources and other approaches that may emerge through the process.
Any long-term solution must also recognize Timnath’s responsibility to maintain existing services, address critical infrastructure needs and advance planned community projects. Any sizable financial contribution from the town would require a new funding mechanism that does not currently exist and would almost certainly require voter approval. Given those responsibilities, Council believes a sustainable solution will require a broad mix of partners and funding sources.
“We know how much families value Timnath Elementary, and we want to do everything we reasonably can to explore what is possible,” Axmacher said. “We don’t have the answer today, but we do have the opportunity to bring the right people together, consider different ideas and work toward something that is realistic and sustainable.”
The community is invited to participate in and support the task force. Those interested can learn more and complete the community interest form at timnath.org/elementary-education-community-task-force. Additional details will be shared as the process takes shape.
