Timnath Parkway – Corn Husk to Buss Grove – Project Complete

Project Overview

The Timnath Parkway project is an infrastructure initiative to create a new north/south urban roadway corridor through Timnath. Timnath Parkway is designed to ultimately be a 4-lane roadway from Harmony Road and tie back to CR 5 north of Buss Grove. It is planned to be constructed in phases. This new connection was identified in Timnath’s Transportation Master Plan, as it supports the town’s efforts to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety in the downtown area. This project aims to strengthen local and regional connectivity while preserving the character of Timnath’s downtown area.

A portion of Timnath Parkway, from Cornhusk Avenue to Buss Grove Road, is currently under construction. The rest will be constructed as separate projects.

Project Goals

Traffic Management

The parkway aims to provide an additional route for regional traffic, reducing congestion on existing roads. This should improve safety and accessibility throughout Timnath.

Balanced Connectivity

The parkway design includes multiple connection points to downtown Timnath. This approach aims to maintain easy access to local businesses and amenities, supporting the town’s economic vitality.

Multimodal Transportation

The project incorporates features for various transportation modes, including dedicated bike lanes and pedestrian pathways, promoting active transportation options.

Main Street Enhancements

The project opens possibilities for future enhancements to Main Street, ideally making it more pedestrian-friendly while maintaining its central role in the community.

Regional Traffic Flow

The new parkway is designed to improve overall traffic flow in the region and accommodate increasing traffic volumes as the area grows.

Future Growth Considerations

As a component of the town’s Transportation Master Plan, the Timnath Parkway is designed with Timnath’s anticipated growth and development in mind

Project History

The Timnath Parkway project has been a key component of Timnath’s long-term planning for over two decades. The project was initially conceived in the 2002 Timnath Comprehensive Plan. Its primary goal was to address growing regional traffic concerns through the downtown area, residential neighborhoods, and school zones along Main Street. The plan aimed to realign Main St/CR 5 (now Timnath Parkway) to reduce traffic for homeowners and school areas while providing convenient access to the Downtown Core.

Since its inception, the Timnath Parkway project has been consistently included and refined in various town planning documents and public engagement processes:

2002 Timnath Comprehensive Plan

Timnath Development Authority – established November 2004

Timnath Farms North Development Process – 2004-2008

2005 Transportation Master Plan

2013 Comprehensive Plan

Timnath Landing Development Process – 2014-2017

2015 Transportation Master Plan

2024 Transportation Master Plan

This consistent presence in town planning documents over the years demonstrates the project’s importance to Timnath’s long-term development strategy and its alignment with the town’s evolution.
