Planning for Timnath’s Future: A Possible Timnath Recreation Center
May 14, 2025

Timnath is a place where community connection, health and wellness, and active living have always been valued. As our community continues to grow, so does the desire for year-round recreation opportunities for residents of all ages. That’s why the Town is exploring the idea of a new indoor recreation center—designed with the community’s input and focused on creating a healthier, more connected Timnath.
Listening to the Community
In 2024, the Town conducted a Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails (PROST) Master Plan survey to help guide future amenities. The results were clear: 94% of respondents said they want a community recreation center. Since then, the Town has continued to gather feedback, and residents have repeatedly voiced the need for an indoor space that supports year-round health, play, and community gathering.
Amenities and Programs for All Ages
Based on community input, the proposed two-story facility would feature something for everyone, including:
• Aquatics: Competition/lap pool with swim lanes and diving board; leisure pool with zero-depth entry, lazy river, and water slide; warm-water therapy pool; and whirlpool spa
• Gyms: Three-court multisport gym and flexible-use gym space
• Fitness Areas: Cardio and weight room, fitness studios, and an indoor walk/jog track
• Community Spaces: Party and event rooms, indoor kids’ play area, senior lounge, and more
• Outdoor Features: Patio seating, turf workout space, and fire pits
• Program Opportunities: Fitness, aquatics, athletics, and other specialty classes, lessons, camps, and leagues would be possible
The center would be located at Timnath Parkway and 4th Avenue, on Town-owned land with ample space for parking and easy access for residents.
Possible Funding Proposal
To make the center a reality, the Town is considering placing a 1.25% sales and use tax measure on the November 4, 2025 ballot. This funding—along with approximately $8 million in developer impact fees—would support both the construction and long-term operation of the facility.
A key benefit of this funding approach is that much of Timnath’s sales tax revenue comes from non-resident shoppers, especially those visiting our major retailers. That means visitors would help fund the project—reducing the burden on local property owners. Purchasing $10 in taxable goods would add just 12.5 cents to the sale.
Once the facility is built and the major construction costs are paid, the tax would be reduced to 0.25% to support ongoing operating expenses.
Your Input Matters
The Town wants your feedback. A public opinion survey will soon be mailed to all registered voter households. You’re also invited to attend one of three upcoming public information sessions at the Timnath Town Center (4750 Signal Tree Drive):
• Thursday, May 22, 6:30–7:30 pm
• Saturday, May 31, 9–10 am
• Thursday, June 5, 6:30–7:30 pm
Surveys are hitting mailboxes in early June- keep an eye out! Be sure to send them back by June 27!
No final decisions have been made, and your voice matters. This is a unique opportunity to shape a project that will serve our community and provide something for everyone for decades to come. Additional details, including concept images, can be found at Timnath.org/RecCenter.
