The Blue Envelope Program is a community-based safety initiative designed to support safe and respectful interactions between emergency responders and individuals with disabilities, sensory sensitivities, communication challenges or other conditions.
How It Works
Participants place important documents and helpful information inside a blue envelope. If contacted by law enforcement or emergency responders, the envelope can be handed to the responder to assist with communication and awareness.
What to Include
- Copy of driver’s license
- Copy of vehicle registration
- Copy of vehicle insurance
- Communication needs
- Medical concerns
- Optional emergency contact details
Who Can Participate
Anyone with a disability, condition or concern that may affect communication or behavior is encouraged to participate, including:
- Physical disabilities
- Intellectual disabilities
- Mental health concerns
- Medical alerts
- Deaf or hard of hearing
Caregivers or legal guardians assisting qualified individuals may also participate.
