As the Town of Timnath undergoes a nationwide search to find a new Police Chief, an interim Chief of Police has been named to assist with the transition. We are excited to welcome Terence (Terry) Jones to serve in the interim role.
Jones has over 35 years of experience with the Aurora Police Department, assisting with several crucial events, including the Aurora Theater Shooting in 2012 and the Democratic National Convention in 2008. In 2017, Jones also assisted the City of Fort Collins as the interim chief of police while the city conducted its professional search for a fulltime chief. Said Jones: “I am looking forward to being a part of a dynamic community poised for significant continued growth. The Town of Timnath has a rich history and is a wonderful place to raise a family. I feel honored to be part of a community that is looking to the future.”
Jones will be replacing Chief Sherri Wagner, who, after 12 years with the Town of Timnath, and over 30 years of service in Northern Colorado, will officially retire in January 2020. Until then, she is enjoying some well-deserved time off over the holidays with her family. Chief Wagner was instrumental in launching the Timnath Police department in 2008, and she has worked hard to grow a unit of one into a well-respected department. The Town Council is committed to the team she has developed and looks forward to growing toward 24/7 coverage and the continued success of the department. “We are thankful to Sherri for her service and her integral role and leadership in starting and growing the Timnath Police department to where we are today,” said Mayor Jill Grossman-Belisle.”
In a 2017 survey and in various outreach sessions, the town’s residents have ranked public safety as a top priority for the community. Said Mayor Grossman-Belisle: “with input from our residents in mind, we are very excited to welcome Chief Jones to our community as Interim Police Chief. We are confident that his expertise, leadership, and familiarity with Northern Colorado will serve Timnath well during this transition. While nobody will replace Chief Wagner, we think the community can rest assured that Chief Jones will provide excellent leadership in this interim period as the Town searches for a long-term candidate with an exemplary service record. Through the nationwide search, we plan to find someone who will provide strong ongoing leadership to the department in a professional environment so that the officers of the Town can continue their focus on keeping our residents safe, with a strong emphasis on community policing.”
Interim Chief Jones began his tenure with the Timnath Police Department on Monday, November 18.
