The end of the year is an important time for the Town of Timnath as your Town Council takes on one of our most important duties, setting the budget for the upcoming year.

Through our annual budgeting process over the past several months, Council considers resident feedback and sets community goals and priorities. Then, we align Town expenditures to fund the services that matter to you. Town Council will formally consider the 2020 Budget at an upcoming meeting on December 10 at 6 p.m. As with every issue before Council, residents are encouraged to join us and offer feedback.

2020 Budget Highlights

Here are a few exciting highlights you can expect in the year ahead.  Full budget details can be found on the Finance Page of Town’s website.

Public Safety

As residents, you have told us time and again that you value public safety. That’s why we are committed to making significant investments in our Police Department including additional officers, a new Police Station, and 24/7 police coverage. Also, the Town Manager has initiated a national executive search for an exceptional, experienced leader as our next Police Chief.

Until then, we’ve appointed Terry Jones as Interim Police Chief, a highly respected, experienced, 35 year veteran of the Aurora Police Department. Jones also assisted the City of Fort Collins as their interim Chief of Police while they conducted a professional search for their current chief.

Jones’ appointment and the investments of 2020 are critically important as we continue to grow, and will improve service and response while building strong, positive connections with the community.

Parks and Recreation

The budget also includes funding for Phase II of the Timnath Community Park to make this town gathering place even better with a new dog park, picnic area and plaza.  Additionally, the community events throughout the year are included in 2020 and expected to continue to grow, providing opportunities to gather as neighbors and build a connected community.

The largest piece of the 2020 Budget, as in most growing communities, goes to fund infrastructure to ensure our roads are well maintained and updated to meet the demands of our vibrant community.

The budget is a blueprint for how we will accomplish community goals, but we all know that plans require commitment and people to implement. Thankfully, we have a great Town staff that is doing just that!

As you might know, we recently said goodbye to two valuable leaders in our organization, former Town Manager April Getchius and former Police Chief Sherri Wagner, who both retired. However, this transition has not slowed our momentum. In fact, another responsibility of Council is to appoint a Town Manager, who then in turn appoints the Police Chief.  To ensure we continue our progress, we welcomed another seasoned professional to the team to lead our organization, Acting Town Manager Wesley LaVanchy.

Mr. LaVanchy was formerly the Town Manager for the Town of Firestone and boasts a long career in public service. Most recently, he served as a management consultant with CliftonLarsonAllen.

Both have admirable reputations and came highly recommended. Bringing in these highly respected career professionals to continue to lead our organization, ensures we seamlessly maintain the integrity of the organization and the quality of our services to our residents.

I have been reminded recently that some of our residents may not know that our Town Council is an elected, non-paid, volunteer governing body made up of your neighbors and friends, who live and may work in the community. In addition to listening and being responsive to the needs of our residents, providing fiduciary prudence in approving a balanced budget, and establishing strategic priorities and policy direction, our responsibilities also include ensuring we have appointed top notch leadership, such as Mr. LaVanchy, to ensure effective and competent leadership and management oversight of Timnath.

I personally as Mayor, but also believe the Council collectively, is very committed to Timnath’s success and we are very excited about 2020. We have the budget resources, the leadership, and the staff to accomplish the goals set by our community. We are moving forward with continually improving and elevating this community that we love.

Respectfully, Jill
Mayor of Timnath
